TUNING YOUR CELLO
Cellos are tuned to C G D A, with the “A” being just below middle “C”. Using the on-line Pocket Tones follow the simple instructions below:
- Click on the string name for the sound
- Play your open string, and determine if it is lower (flat)
or higher (sharp).
- Use the fine tuner for exactness: Turn it counterclockwise (if sharp), clockwise (if flat).
- Keep turning until pitches match.
Note: IT IS IMPORTANT WHEN TUNING A CELLO THAT YOU PUSH THE TUNING PEGS IN SNUGGLY. If you neglect this most important step, they will just keep detuning back.
When you are away from your computer, and you need an accurate starting pitch, consider buying a pitch pipe, tuning fork, an electronic tuner or a Pocket Tones. These are tools that the beginner and pro alike should always have on hand.
